Work Weeks 38, 39, & 40: Full Term!

Hello! If this project was a human pregnancy, it’d be time to give birth to this baby! Instead, we’re still laboring, and we will be for a while yet. We’ve got another 3 week post here, sorry about that!

Last week was a tough week, and I couldn’t manage to write. It was time to say goodbye to our dear sweet faithful steed, Leroy. He lived a full and happy life, and made it all the way to 13 ½. We’re glad he’s no longer suffering, but boy, will he be missed.

Here at the house, the only outside stuff that’s been happening is the porch. Troy is assembling the staircases and landings and all that fun stuff. It’s really looking like something!

Inside, it’s been a big push to get everything done in the back apartment before the flooring goes in, including lots and lots and lots of painting for me. Trim is a really tedious thing, especially when it all needs scrubbing, scraping, priming, and painting, including 7 doors. Here’s a shocker: my tennis elbow (or should I call it painters elbow!?) is back. Yaaay for that. I’m trying to be proactive and smart and I’m determined not to get to the point I was back in the winter. I can do this! I’m almost done with the painting! Really and truly! Nate did these really cool cement coats on some of the exterior walls that were in very bad shape. Don’t they look straight off pinterest!? Added bonus: I don’t have to paint them! Hooray!

Here’s the bathroom, a cheery yellow place!

I’ll have more apartment pics once the floors go in.

Downstairs in the commercial kitchen, Jim and Colleen have been working diligently to get everything ready. Colleen has italian waxes and cornflower blue paint and is working some kind of magic in there.  Here it is midway.

Colleen says the theme is “David Bowie Faberge Egg.” I say YES TO THAT! Ethan and I have both been dreaming of one day having an oil painting version of David Bowie’s mug shot to hang in the hallway, so we’re obviously on the same page here! In case you’ve never seen David Bowie’s glorious mug shot, here it is. You’re welcome.

Ok, that’s it, hopefully by the next time I write, something will be finished!
