Work Week 16: We Wait
This past week felt like a lot of waiting happened: Waiting on quotes, waiting on the roof (the slate was delayed due to ice, wah!) waiting for the weather to warm up. That’s just how this time of year feels, I guess! Lots did get done, I’m certain! Look, here are some walls that got re-built:
The picture on the left is our future main bathroom, complete with my dazzle ship tub and a pocket door. The picture on the right is the newly designed master bedroom en suite. I ditched the shower in favor of a tiny laundry room to hold a stackable washer and dryer. There was just enough room to accommodate this and a powder room. Hooray!
Both bathrooms have spots for transoms above the doors, just like basically all the rest of the rooms in the house. Transoms are amazing at allowing natural light into interior rooms. I should count how many are in the house! But not now, because I’m in my pajamas and its dark out and there are still no lights in the majority of the house and also no heat.
Also lots of new electric lines got run, and many walls got the chipped paint and wallpaper scraped off of them in anticipation of plaster repairs once we have a roof that doesn’t leak and heat or the weather is just actually warm. Some of them have gorgeous patinas!
I’d like to keep some of them just as they are as accent walls, but if I’ve learned anything about this house remodeling stuff, it’s that things can always change, and there’s no way to know if the walls are going to survive all the various construction steps still occurring, especially when those steps involve many different dudes. So I’ll just wait and see what it all looks like once the spackle and plaster dust has settled and make my decisions then. Hopefully there will be much more to report next week!
